.Does this sound like your place? Busy parents with full weekly work schedules. Kids that all have different school activities at different locations and at different days and times, family events that often 'sneak up on you'.. and you never quite feel totally on top of it all?
Well - welcome to modern, busy family life. Staying on top of your own schedule is hard enough... so getting everyone in the house to be aware of and remember important events can be a real challenge... but it is possible.
Getting a household in some sort of order takes planning and often revolves around a system that everyone understands and contributes towards. Not every planning system suits every family. Everyone has their own approach and some work better than others.
We were asked recently "what is number one tip you would give a young family to help get themselves organized?"
Organized households have a common factor. They all use a central 'communication tool' where all the scheduling information is located for all to see. Some people call it their 'command centre'. You can start simple - even a whiteboard and as the habit forms, you can introduce more effective approaches. It has to become the 'go to' place for everyone in the household to find out about important 'don't miss this' activities for the day/week/month ahead.
For households with young adults, separate columns for each individual is often a great idea. Life seems to get busy with teenagers.
We have developed our own multi-user 'organization station'. You can find out more here.
Ultimately, it's about finding a system that everyone understands, follows and can contribute towards.... you are a long way ahead of the race when it comes to keeping everyone on the same page if you can do this.
Share with us YOUR system. We would love to hear all about it.
